If you know a bill will be due in say, 6 months, divide that bill by 6, (the number of months you have till it's due), and have that amount automatically deducted from your paycheck into a savings account. If you don't have that option with your employer, set up an automatic transfer from your checking account to your savings with your credit union or bank each payday.
