I Can't Tell If My Debt Consolidation Company Is Legit – What Should I Do?

I'm in a little bit of financial trouble and have decided to consolidate my bills. After a few calls to a few of the different companies that offer debt consolidation, 800CreditCardDebt.com seems to be the the most legit. I have yet to sign anything, because since this is such a serious matter, I wanted to do a bit of research on the company.

Turns out my payment is supposed to go to a PO Box in Long Island, but the Law Firm that will be representing me is actually located outside of Ft Lauderdale, FL. Now, first, the PO Box kind of sounded fishy to me, but then the fact that they don't mention the fact that they're actually in Florida.. I had to do a search on Google to find that out. And, I did a search on the New York and Florida Better Business Bureau websites, and they're not registered.

My simple question is, are most debt consolidation places like this? I just don't want to get involved in a company that could possibly be a scam.

Also, I don't need a speech on not consolidating or whatever.. I'd like to do this, I just need to know if the company I'm going through is really reputable.

Should I continue making payments on a Credit Card Settlement?

I owed $5500 to a credit card. I was trying to pay it off in full, but between high interest rates (22%), and the fact that I am over the limit ($1500 over), i decided to settle. They offered me a settlement of $2600, which I have to pay over a 6 month period. Now, upon looking on yahoo answers, everyone is saying that settling is the same as not paying it at all. Should I continue to pay on my settlement? If it is going to look the same overall, then there is no need to keep paying, however I am trying to fix my credit as best I can. Any advice would be appreciated!!

I had a chargeoff with a credit card and now there is a collection agency taking care of it. The man offered me a settlement of half of what I owe.

3 payments in 3 months and I'm done with this he said.

What should I do next before I set up the payments or mail in any money orders?

What should I request from them? something in writing.

Please give me exact good advice as of what to do.

I don't wanna pay this amount and find out he lied about this settlement.

I have $7000 in credit card debt, should I go to a debt consolidator?

I'm trying to work at paying off my debt and get my credit score up. I have close to $7000 in credit card debt (I have 7 credit cards). Some of the credit cards have high APRs between 16% and 24%. I've been paying all my monthly payments on time and have been paying more than the minimum payment. Do you think going to a debt consolidator would be better or even helpful? If so, what are good companies to go to?
I don't have a home. I'm 21 yrs old and got a little credit crazy when I got my first credit card out of high school. I would eventually like to buy a home but I'm working on getting rid of the debt first.
