What are the advantages of preparing a home budget?

I want an introduction to my project ( home budget ) and also its advantages (Please mention in points).

The advantages of preparing a home budget are extensive. You save funding by doing it yourself rather going to a financial planner.
You can find what are your priorities and spend more on those than desires. For example : you would spend more on gas than cable because you need gas to go places. As far as cable is concerned, you can live without.
I know this is brief but it should help give you ideas on which direction you want to take this project.
